Don’t go Crackers over Christmas with Toothaches or Dental Emergencies!

With the festive season in full swing the last thing you need is a toothache but ignore it and you might get more than you bargained for!

We’ve all been there, a little niggle or a wobbly crown in the run up to Christmas. A trip to the dentist is the last thing in mind however, that little niggle could turn into a terrible problem leaving you in pain, spoiling Christmas.

If you are experiencing any dental problems it is advisable to arrange a trip to the dentist for treatment as soon as possible and at Gipsy Lane Advanced Dental Care we will arrange an appointment as quickly as possible. We’ve also put together some advice for patients seeking treatment over the Christmas period.

Patients with Dental Injuries:

At Gipsy Lane Advanced Dental Care we generally experience an increase in the number of dental injuries during this time of year. It’s a time for indulgence and parties and unfortunately our teeth can suffer from mishaps and accidents.

We see patients attempting to open beer bottles and crack nuts with their teeth as well as people slipping during icy conditions or falls on the dance floor reenacting Saturday Night Fever! Situations such as these benefit from a dental payment plan which includes supplementary insurance for dental emergencies.

What to do if you experience a dental injury over Christmas?

We offer emergency out of hours cover over the Christmas period: 0118 966 5656.

Here are a few self-help tips:

Toothaches

Rinse mouth with warm water and apply a cold compress to the outside of the mouth/cheek to reduce swelling. Over the counter pain relief can reduce pain.

Chipped / Broken Teeth

It is important to save any chipped or broken teeth if possible. Rinse the mouth with warm water and if you have bleeding gums, apply gauze to the area and apply gentle pressure to stop the bleeding.

Knocked Out Tooth

If you can retrieve the tooth, rinse in water and position back in place or place it in a container of milk or salty water.

Lost Filling

If you have lost a filling, use sugarless chewing gum to place into the cavity or buy over the counter dental cement.

Lost Crown

If you have lost a crown, over the counter dental cement or denture adhesive will allow you to replace the crown back over the tooth.

The team at Gipsy Lane Advanced Dental Care would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas. Please do keep on top of your dental hygiene over the Christmas holidays. If you need any additional advice or please do not hesitate to contact us, we are more than happy to answer any queries.
