There is hope for everyone –

Our teeth are so important to our confidence and overall health. Most of us know the basics – regular brushing, flossing and the use of mouthwash. Childhood memories of our parents constantly nagging just before bedtime and first thing in the morning come to mind, but still, many of us let this essential routine fall to the wayside.

The good news is that if you have been guilty of ignoring your oral hygiene, dental care is constantly evolving and there are few situations that are irreparable nowadays. Our teeth not only affect our functional capability to eat, but also have a significant impact on our overall self-esteem and therefore how we smile, talk and socially interact. This means that if your teeth need attention, you should give it to them!

Many patients think that dental implant treatment will be painful and only available to the wealthy. However, the Gipsy Lane Team are here to tell you that this is no longer the case – The treatment can be condensed into just 90 minutes as Dr Desai explains:

‘Traditionally, titanium roots are inserted in the bone beneath the gum, in place of a missing or extracted tooth ‘

‘These new roots are then left there for three to six months while they integrate with bone. During this time, a plastic denture is fitted and stuck with adhesive to teeth on either side of the gap.

‘After about six months, the denture is then removed and a metal post is inserted into the titanium root to which a natural-looking artificial tooth is then fitted.’

However, with Gipsy Lane’s ‘same day teeth’ procedure all this work is achieved in 90 minutes. ‘We have worked out a way in which the patient can have the titanium implant, a metal post, and a crown fitted in a single appointment,’ says Dr Desai. ‘Patients need to be careful for a few weeks while the healing takes place – but we will ensure that every patient is aware of the healing protocol and the care required.’

‘Because everything is done in one appointment, we get better aesthetic results.’ A two-year study on 28 patients has found the procedure to have a 98 per cent success rate.

We talked to Jenny, a patient at Gipsy Lane, about her experiences with dental implant treatment. Jenny is an extremely confident and outgoing character whose high-powered job as an Account Manager requires her to be client-facing almost daily. Until recently she had been suffering a painful and damaged front tooth for a number of years.

Jenny recalled, “I had chipped a tooth playing netball a few years back and not thought too much of it at the time. As time went on I began to notice that my tooth had become extremely sensitive to hot and cold and began gradually discolouring. I began noticing people staring at my tooth and I became increasingly self-conscious. To be honest, the effect it was having on my enjoying a glass of cold white wine in the evening definitely factored into my opinion to see a dentist!”

“I heard from a friend about Gipsy Lane and decided to book a consultation with Dr Dr Jatin Desai. I was very impressed with the practice as soon as I arrived – the staff were attentive and friendly and I felt relaxed throughout my experience there. After my initial appointment Dr Jatin he referred me to a colleague within the practice who specialised in periodontal care. This colleague quickly confirmed that unfortunately my root had been damaged and we needed to replace the tooth with an implant.”

“The very next week Dr Jatin Desai removed the damaged tooth and replaced it with the implant, all in one appointment! The procedure was quick and painless. Although there was some swelling afterwards, I didn’t need any painkillers. The whole healing process only took a week or so and I was thrilled with the results. I am smiling far too much these days and I feel so happy that I can finally enjoy that glass of wine again!”

Jenny is just one of many patients who have benefited from the ‘same day teeth’ at Gipsy Lane. If Jenny’s story feels familiar or you are experiencing any dental problems, come down and speak to the team on Saturday 7th October at 10am at The Moat House,Book your place today
